Aerial Surveys

Survey aircraft on a bird and marine mammal aerial survey over offshore wind turbinesAPEM is one of Europe’s fastest growing providers of aerial surveys. As the leading provider of digital aerial bird surveys for the offshore wind industry we have carried out well over 500 surveys and worked on seven of the nine Round Three offshore wind zones in the UK, as well as windfarm areas in the German North Sea and German Baltic Sea.

We have worked with many of the leading offshore windfarm developers, including ScottishPower Renewables, Vattenfall, RWE, Smart Wind, Centrica and DONG, as well as regulators including Natural England, The Crown Estate and Marine Scotland.

Using our extensive experience of working with the UK water industry we have developed a suite of innovative aerial survey services for the sector. These include aerial surveys for catchment management, coastal and bathing water surveys, mapping of private sewer networks and buried pipes, and the identification of misconnected domestic wastewater pipes.

Aircraft over coast

Our aerial surveys for the construction industry include innovative techniques for monitoring and measuring stockpiles, as well 3D virtual fly-throughs of projects.

We also provide surveys of building energy efficiency, monitoring of thermal outfalls and oil spills and surveys of pipeline and cable routes, roads, rivers, canals and railways.

Our fleet of modern aircraft are equipped with state-of-the-art cameras and sensors and we were the first company in Europe to purchase the ultra-high resolution Leica RCD30 digital survey camera. More recently we have developed our own bespoke camera systems, Shearwater II and III, which set the standard for offshore aerial surveys and allow us to gather even higher resolution images.

We pioneered ultra-high resolution aerial surveys of birds and marine mammals for the offshore wind industry and have flown over 500 surveys.

We also offer a suite of specialist surveys for the water and construction sectors.
