Jenny Horne - 2 Marathons in 2 Weeks

APEM’s own Jenny Horne who is an Invertebrate and Diatom Taxonomist based in the Stockport Laboratory took up a huge challenge last month to complete 2 marathons in 2 weeks!  Jenny entered the 2 toughest trial marathons in the UK - Firstly the Man Vs Horse Marathon based in Wales on the 11th of June and then a marathon in North Devon on the 26th of June.  She ran with her partner and was raising money for the Weston Park Cancer Charity, a Sheffield based charity that does research and funds treatment for people with cancer all over the country. She had chosen this charity as two of her friends have recently been successfully treated at the cancer facility at their hospital and believed it to be a great cause.

Jenny’s result from the first marathon – the Man Vs Horse at a length of 22 miles - was amazing as Jenny came in as the first female runner at 2 hrs 46 mins and 40 secs and came 17th in the overall race. Well done Jenny!

After just about recuperating from the first marathon Jenny was pulling on her running shoes again a week later to run the North Devon marathon which is notoriously hilly! To make it even more tiring it was a scorching day for the marathon so all the runners had to work extra hard to get to the finish line. Astoundingly Jenny again was the first female to finish the race! She finished on a time of 3hrs 55 mins and 50 secs and came 5th overall!

All at APEM are extremely proud of Jenny’s achievement on both runs! What an amazing result! In the end Jenny managed to raise in excess of £600 for the Weston Park Cancer Charity and with an APEM contribution of £500 to add to that her total raised was over £900! That’s a great result and we’re glad it is going to such a good cause! Well done Jenny – now go put your feet up…
