Sam Andrews Royal Parks Half Marathon
APEM’s Sam Andrews, who is a GIS Technician based at the Dorset office, took part in the Royal Parks Marathon on the 9thof October 2011. 12,500 people came from the UK and beyond to race in the marathon that went through the streets of London. The full route was 13.1 miles starting and finishing in Hyde Park and went through Kensington Gardens, The Green Park and St James’s Park and went past landmarks such as Buckingham Palace and the London Eye. This year saw over 40,000 people attend to spectate and show their support for the participants.

Sam was running for a very worthy cause – the National Autistic Society which is a leading UK charity for people with autism and their families. They provide information and support and campaign for a better world for people with autism. To read more about the charity please go to their website at the following link http://www.autism.org.uk/.
Sam managed to finish the race in 2 hours and 4 minutes – some of which was pretty hard going (especially the last few miles) but his determination to raise the funds for his charity helped him get to the finish line! His initial aim was to raise about £350 and he managed to raise an impressive £380 – on top of this APEM agreed to match any donations he managed to raise so have put another £380 on top of that to make his final total a whopping £760! So a big well done to Sam – judging by the below photo you were due a good rest after the finish line!
