Adult Salmonid Migration & Flow Studies
Over the past 10 years United Utilities has commissioned APEM to investigate the effect of abstractions and low flows on the majority of major salmonid rivers in the North West. Since 1996 we have performed a series of detailed flow and abstraction related studies on salmon and sea trout populations on the Rivers Eden, Lune, Ribble, Derwent, Ehen and Leven. In all studies we have been tasked with providing robust, locally relevant information on the link between flows and juvenile fish production, together with detailed investigations into the influence of changes to flows on fish migration. These studies have frequently involved species such as lamprey and eels, together with comprehensive assessments of associated impacts on invertebrates, macropyhtes, birds and mammals.
