National Dock Developments
We carried out detailed fisheries surveys of 10 disused docks throughout the UK to investigate their conservation potential. We studied how the physical character of the dock and water quality influenced the fish community. We used sonar, benthic surveys and a range of netting techniques to identify the association between thermocline formation, low oxygen levels and fish distribution. In addition, we evaluated habitat enhancement afforded by underwater structures such as sunken boats, submerged artificial habitats, floating islands and shallows.
