Severn Estuary Tidal Power Scheme

APEM were commissioned as part of a consortium of consultancies to undertake the Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) of the Severn Estuary Tidal Power Scheme (STP). APEM determined the likely effects of short-listed STP options on migratory and estuarine fish. Where possible, we addressed specific knowledge gaps, through the development of supporting reviews covering ecology, behaviour and commercial fisheries. Potential impacts considered included injury/mortality from turbine passage, alterations to migratory cues, habitat changes and water quality impacts. The magnitude of these impacts was assessed via life cycle modelling for specific species and measures for offsetting and compensating significant fish losses were proposed.
