What can we offer?
APEM is highly experienced in the study and restoration of waters afflicted by Britain's industrial legacy. Our head office in Greater Manchester is close to Salford Quays and the Manchester Ship Canal. We're proud of our ground breaking involvement in a world-famous water remediation and management programme at these sites.
We have been involved in low flow and water resource studies since our inception in 1987. Projects we have managed range from water quality to ecology and fisheries impact studies on major reservoir schemes; from changes in existing abstraction licences to water resource abstraction, expert witness and consultancy.

Our scientists have worked on a number of major water quality projects across the UK involving marine and freshwater lakes, estuaries, coastal docks, canals and rivers. We have extensive experience investigating high profile pollution incidents for both defence and prosecution.
APEM's extensive nationwide capability for water quality, ecology and fisheries includes reliable and professional field survey and monitoring services, either as one-off assignments or as part of regular monitoring and compliance assessments. We also provide in-house modelling expertise to demonstrate the effect of treatment improvements and discharge plumes on chemical and thermal water quality.
Why choose APEM?
APEM is a science-based consultancy, working exclusively in the realm of Aquatic Science for over 20 years. We operate UK-wide, providing a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary approach to the monitoring and management of aquatic ecosystems. Our scientists are recognised experts in their diverse and specialist fields. Our teams work to exacting standards and are committed to providing a professional, client-focused service.
APEM has re-established the scientific basis of aeration, destratification and oxygen injection techniques for use in water quality management and restoration, through modelling, monitoring and hands-on management. Over the past 20 years we have experimented with, and operated a vast range of devices in a variety of environments. This has given us an unparalleled insight into what will work where and why - and, perhaps more importantly, what won't.
Our staff are fully trained in the use of hydrogen peroxide equipment, a particularly powerful water quality management tool in the event of pollution incidents. Our extensive knowledge of the effectiveness of such techniques resulted in us being commissioned by the Environment Agency to develop best practice guidelines, define operational procedures and advise on health & safety for its use.
