BioLabs
APEM has more than 20 years experience of the analysis of aquatic biological samples from freshwater and marine environments. With the advent of the EU Water Framework Directive it's crucial to be able to accurately identify the biological quality elements within a waterbody. These identification skills are in great demand in the UK. Here at APEM we have one of the largest aquatic biological facilities in Europe - APEM BioLabs encompassing both freshwater and marine analysis.

Highly trained staff - each with individual specialisms - work in superbly-equipeed laboratories to process samples and identify organisms to the highest levels of accuracy. Our experts also verify identifications of specimens from sensitive and protected habitats and audit work undertaken by other laboratories.

APEM's expertise in the identification of marine and freshwater macroinvertebrates, phytoplankton, diatoms and zooplankton is unmatched anywhere in the UK. Our labs have been designed in consultation with the Environment Agency whose auditors routinely checked our work - our internal analytical quality control (AQC) system exceeds Environment Agency standards. We are unique in the UK having UKAS accreditation for freshwater invertebrates and diatom analysis as well as marine invertebrates and phytoplankton analysis at one or more of our regional laboratories. We are also members and the industry representative of the NMBAQC Scheme.
