Role: Field Scientist – six month fixed term contract

About the role
This is an excellent opportunity for several high-calibre, motivated and commercially-minded graduates to join the Field Surveys team, which is at the heart of ensuring the efficient and professional provision of APEM’s services. The Field Surveys team specialises in aquatic ecological and hydro morphological survey work throughout the UK with sampling and monitoring of lakes, ponds, canals, rivers, estuary, coastal and marine environments.
Additional day to day activities will include accurate data entry, equipment maintenance and calibration with stringent quality control systems implemented at all times. Ad hoc activities will include assisting the laboratory scientists from time to time carrying out chemical and biological analysis on samples taken during fieldwork, under the supervision of one of the senior scientists.

The successful candidate will be a proven team player, must be able to swim and able to work outdoors in all weather conditions. Time away from home will be a part of the job, including some weekend work, so you will need to be flexible, adaptable and always punctual. Previous experience in fish identification and husbandry, boat handling, ecological survey design, statistical analysis or GIS usage would be an advantage, with first aid certification beneficial. However training will be given where required and necessary.
