About the role

We are looking to expand our busy and experienced Ornithology team.

As a Senior Consultant you will be responsible for providing a high quality Ornithology consultancy service to clients, dealing with all aspects of the consultancy process from bringing in new projects to the production of a high quality scientific reports and maintaining good relationships with clients.

You will also provide specialist technical advice to both internal and external clients and tender for new work as well as providing high quality analytical and writing support to the team.

As a Consultant you will be responsible for data analysis and interpretation as well as supporting with project work, including preparation of reports.

About you

You will be able to demonstrate a sound understanding of biology, preferably with a marine slant. With previous experience of statistical analysis and data interpretation you will have the ability to carefully and robustly analyse wildlife data in the context of anthropogenic factors, producing well written and high quality reports.

You will be primarily office-based, although site visits and client meetings will be required.

Required Skills

  • Essential: Bachelors (2.1 or above), Masters or preferably Doctoral thesis in a relevant environmental science (e.g. ornithology, marine mammals, terrestrial ecology, mathematics or Environmental Impact Assessment).
  • Essential: ability to deliver projects on time and to budget, to write clearly and to be comfortable communicating with stakeholders (for Senior Consultant).
  • Essential: strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Essential: previous experience of report writing in a research, technical and / or commercial environment (for Senior Consultant).
  • Useful: spatial analysis using GIS to relate animal distributions to environmental features
  • Useful: proficiency in the use and application of GIS.
  • Useful: proficiency in the use of R.
  • Useful: power analysis in the design of surveys.
  • Useful: survival and/or Population Viability Analysis (eg for seabirds).
  • Useful: wildlife tag data analysis experience.
  • Useful: knowledge of EIA and NSIPs
