Scottish & Southern Energy Grain Size Mapping
Scottish & Southern Energy commissioned APEM to produce aerial photography-based grain size maps for a number of rivers impounded by Hydroelectric facilities. High resolution (3cm) imagery was acquired and processed using the FIS in order to generate georeferenced images showing median particle size (D50) distribution. Following this, APEM was asked to acquire additional imagery to conduct a complete FIS-based salmonid habitat assessment on a sensitive site. These invaluable data were subsequently used to help inform new compensation release strategies for the hydroelectric scheme.
