APEM has been at the forefront of fisheries science since the company’s conception in 1987. In addition to a dedicated team of highly experienced field staff and consultants, APEM employs a number of internationally respected experts who specialise in various fields such as population dynamics, recruitment, migration, entrainment, early development and species conservation. Due to the ongoing growth of the company, opportunities currently exist for recruitment at all grades and office locations.
Fish are a valuable resource, both from a commercial and recreational perspective. Accordingly, fish sensitivity to anthropogenic activities requires appropriate consideration and a holistic knowledge of ecosystem function is often required when planning appropriate survey design. To this end, APEM fisheries scientists are able to draw on a broad range of intrinsically linked expertise throughout the company to both support and exceed client expectations. In addition to desk based studies, projects often involve field survey, data analysis and reporting, with effective client liaison being of paramount importance throughout the project delivery process.
To facilitate the acquisition of data, field staff are trained in a broad range of survey methods (electric fishing, netting, snorkeling, hydroacoustics, species identification and habitat evaluation) and are provided with the opportunity to travel and work throughout the UK.
Individual project assignments are diverse, encompassing all aquatic environments (freshwater, estuarine and marine) and may be designed to assist planners and developers by informing impact assessments, water companies applying for drought permits, or to develop appropriate tools and R&D to support regulators in effectively managing our natural resources against anthropogenic demand for water, power and recreation.
APEM is synonymous with delivering practical, client-focussed solutions to aquatic environmental problems, based on robust science. This is a unique opportunity for a motivated fisheries scientist to join a dynamic and forward-thinking company at a key stage in its development.
The role you undertake within the fisheries team will be dependent upon your experiences and position as highlighted in the grades / job descriptions featured on the vacancy page. |
