Marine Biology has been a key of growth area within APEM over the last decade. In light of requirements under the Water Framework Directive (WFD), implementation of the Marine Act and the increasing drive to protect marine environments APEM foresees an exciting future ahead. We are therefore recruiting enthusiastic and experienced marine ecologists at all levels and in all offices to continue to take APEM forward.
APEM undertakes environmental investigations within offshore, estuarine and coastal environments including marine docks. Our multi-disciplinary, integrated approach enables us to undertake UK wide marine survey and monitoring projects, our most recent including offshore wind farms, nuclear power stations, bridge constructions and coastal management. We also respond to issues surrounding marine pollution, water quality and climate change. Projects often involve the development of an EIA and may include field surveys, reporting as well as project management and excellent client relationships are key to our progress. Project teams draw upon a wide range of experiences from within other areas of APEM which include a range of disciplines such as taxonomy, hydroacoustics, GIS and aerial surveys.
Using a variety of sampling techniques including invertebrate cores, fish trawls and water samplers operated from a range of survey vessels, the quality of the data we collect is paramount. Marine samples are then analysed in-house by dedicated taxonomists in APEM Biolabs. Understanding of current marine legislation together with expertise in statistical analyses allows our reporting to meet the needs of our clients. Subsequently any EIA that is produced or Public Inquiry that is attended can be defended in the knowledge that the best job possible was undertaken.
APEM is synonymous with delivering practical, client-focussed solutions to aquatic environmental problems, based on a robust scientific approach. This is a unique opportunity for a motivated marine biologist to join a dynamic and forward-thinking company at a key stage in its development.
The role you undertake within the marine team will be dependent upon your experiences and position as highlighted in the grades / job descriptions featured on the vacancy page.
