Wetlands Appointments

APEM has a long-standing and extensive portfolio of hydroecological projects, and undertakes all aspects of hydroecological investigation from initial survey design, field sampling, laboratory analysis and statistical data analysis through to final reporting. We are now seeking to expand on our capacity in this key area and are therefore recruiting enthusiastic and experienced wetlands scientists at all levels and in all offices to continue to take APEM forward.

In terms of hydroecological investigations for water resource management, APEM have established an unrivalled track record in working closely with groundwater and surface water specialists and integrating the outputs of studies into ecological models to produce a robust scientific basis for informing appropriate environmental solutions.

Wetlands are extremely susceptible to hydrological changes; whether inadvertently (as from groundwater abstraction and land drainage), through climate change, or deliberate manipulation of water levels through engineering works. From an ecological perspective the balance between water inflow and outflow, and the magnitude of water storage is not of most significance since ecological functions may be more related to the depth of water, length and/or timing of flood inundation, flow velocity and water source. These aspects determine the differences in the species of amphibians, aquatic invertebrates, and fish that tend to be present or absent from wetlands in differing hydroperiod categories.

Related to APEM’s capabilities in limnology, ecological monitoring of wetlands is achieved using specific evaluation tools/indices modified to be fit for purpose. Similarly, hydrological assessment is undertaken using spot sampling followed by extraction and instrumental analysis. These types of methodology are well established and validated, so are accepted for regulatory and legislation purposes.

APEM is synonymous with delivering practical, client-focussed solutions to aquatic environmental problems, based on robust science. This is a unique opportunity to join a dynamic and forward-thinking company at a key stage in its development.

The role you play in the wetlands team will be dependent upon your experiences and position as highlighted in the grades / job descriptions featured on the vacancy page.
