Water Quality Appointments

Water quality studies have been the core of APEM’s business since its inception 23 years ago. APEM’s water quality management projects in Greater Manchester are amongst the most successful in the world, and the company is continually expanding and developing activities in this area. Recruitment at all levels throughout the company and in all offices is now underway, and our aim is to find the right individuals to join the Water Quality team.

APEM undertakes water quality studies in marine, estuarine and freshwater systems, from the open sea to urban docks. Topics of investigation range from EIAs for major water resource schemes, predicting the effects of drought orders, modelling of thermal plumes, through to pollution incident responses and long-term monitoring and management of artificial waterbodies. Water quality projects may be stand alone assessments, or form a key part of large, multi-disciplinary scientific studies that address vital issues such as EIA production for nationally important infrastructure developments. Over the course of a project where activities may involve developing analysis profiles, organising field surveys, data interpretation and report writing, effective client liaison is essential. The wide range of expertise available within APEM presents a host of information and technical skill from which cross-cutting teams can be formed to match project specifications.

The gathering of high quality data is the first stage of delivering a high quality product to our clients. This may be collected by our specialist field teams deploying water quality probes or collecting samples for further analysis. Alternatively it may come from remote sensing data collected by our own aircraft, or be supplied by a client. The analysis and interpretation of the results is always tailored to the needs of our clients. A thorough understanding of the most current EC legislation ensures that our reports are always relevant, and that our clients are kept updated with the changing requirements to meet those legislative standards. When combined with state-of-the-art modelling techniques and robust statistical analyses, such attention to detail results in robust scientific reports capable of supporting management decisions that range from the granting of abstraction licenses to determining whether a waterbody is safe for recreational purposes.

This is a unique opportunity for a motivated Water Quality scientist to join a forward-thinking company at a key stage in its development.

The role you play in the Water Quality team will be dependent upon your experiences and position as highlighted in the grades / job descriptions featured on the vacancy page.
